I couldn’t have chosen a more perfect fragrance to wear to the Lempicka Musical, which I had the pleasure of seeing not once, but twice on Broadway. The musical has secured a spot in my top five favorite musicals of all time, and trust me, I’ve seen a few.
Tragedy Perfume Oil, a collaboration between indie perfumer, Marissa Zappas, and actress, Ruby McCollister, was created for Ruby’s one-woman show, Tragedy, an ode to the tragic heroines of bygone eras.
This is a hauntingly captivating white floral fragrance that leaves a sensual trail and will cling to your skin for many hours. Yes, there are hundreds of well-crafted white floral fragrances out there, but I haven’t tried anything like this before.
Tragedy features a mesmerizing tuberose intertwined with heady orange flowers and a touch of sensual oakmoss, expertly blended to create an elixir that instantly captivates the senses. This tuberose note isn’t creamy, flirty, or dainty. It’s cool, spicy, and a little aloof, perfectly embodying the seductive and enigmatic essence of Tamara de Lempicka, the iconic Art Deco painter I’ve admired since my teenage years when I first discovered her in a magazine.
In line with the fragrance’s inspiration from the tragic actresses of Old Hollywood, I can’t help but imagine this daunting and alluring scent as something Tamara and her women would wear. If you haven’t had the chance to experience Tragedy Perfume Oil, I highly recommend giving it a try (it’s currently sold out in Marissa Zappas’ store, but I understand it’s being restocked).
And if you haven’t yet seen the Lempicka musical on Broadway, I wholeheartedly urge you to go, if you get the chance. Sadly, the last Broadway show is scheduled for tomorrow, May 19th, only three days after Tamara de Lempicka’s birthday (she would have been 126). I’m feeling sad the show is ending, but I’ll always treasure it as a special memory.
Eden Espinosa and Amber Iman deliver a mesmerizing performance that you won’t want to miss. Both actresses were nominated for the Tony Award. The musical also received several nominations for the Dorian Theater Awards and the Broadway Audience Choice Awards.
Perfume and theater tickets to the show were purchased by me.
