I’ve loved perfumes all my life, but I don’t limit myself when it comes to good scents. I love fragrant bar soaps and body lotions too.
The New Orleans independent perfumery, Hové Parfumeur, which I happily discovered in 2017 and visited again in 2019, satisfies my penchant for all three things fragrant at the same time.
Also, because I have very much missed travelling, going to perfumeries, and spritzing freely during the COVID-19 pandemic, I love to remember the times spent at their quaint store by wearing and layering their perfumes, colognes, soaps, and lotions.
Some of my favorite Hové offerings have violets as protagonists and are described below.
Purple Violet Perfume
A perfume I’d define as classic and timeless, Purple Violet opens with a slightly sharp accent, but soon evolves into a suave bouquet of dainty violets that confer soapy and powdery nuances. Of this fragrance, I chose the pure perfume formulation in splash format, which reminds me of a violet essence I had as a young girl. Spanish Moss Bar Soap and Body Lotion
During a conversation with one of the Hové shop assistants, I discovered that the Purple Violet formula is also contained in Spanish Moss. The violet is still prominent here, but the fragrance is overall earthier, deeper, even dustier. The oakmoss accord lends a green and airy quality. The scent is overall warm and comforting, and leaves a gracious fragrant trail. Of this fragrance, I chose the French-milled bar soap and body lotion. The soap’s texture is fine, smooth, and delicately scented with a rich lather. The body lotion is silky and divine, and its scent lasts for many hours on the skin. Purple Violet and Spanish Moss can be nicely layered with one another.
