Is there a fragrance you have purchased over and over again?
I can think of several, but Dolce e Gabbana for Women might win the contest for me. Launched in 1992, this was the designer house’s first fragrance and it was known for its use of aldehydes.
I bought my first bottle in my late teens and I used it up until the last drop. It quickly became my signature scent and I used it enthusiastically for much of my twenties. Once, I purchased a brand new bottle only to drop it a few days later on my tile floor, smashing it completely. However, I was undeterred and got another one the very next day.
What I love here is the juxtaposition of sugar and spice, sharpness and warmth, sun and shade, contrasting features that convey a sensual and enticing character to the creation.
A blaze of sparkling aldehydes and citrus fruits open the fragrance with hints of green, which, soon, seamlessly transform into a delightful bouquet of roses and jasmines, carnations and marigolds, orange flowers and lily of the valley – fragrant flowers dappled with coriander. This orchestra of notes tell us about the multifaceted character of the scent – sweet, spicy, and even slightly sharp. The floral notes rest on a velvety bed of sandalwood, tonka bean, and musk, which add a sweet and soft, yet luxurious touch to the skin.
This fragrance is lively and spirited, but also mysterious and unusual.
I still enjoy spritzing it on occasion and I get just as excited wearing it regardless of season, time of the day, and state of mind.
The notes are listed below, as they appear on Basenotes:
Top: Petigrain, Tangerine, Basil, Ivy, Aldehyde, Freesia
Heart: Roses, Orange Flower, Jasmine, Red Carnation, Muguet, Coriander, MarigoldBase: Base: Sandalwood, Tonka Bean, Musk
I reviewed the fragrance from my personal bottle.
Photos are my own. The silk ribbon in the pictures is a detail from a top I purchased from the beautiful online fashion store Sara Gambarelli Handmade in Italy.
